We see a lot of fancy gear come and go here at Walnut Grove. It can be confusing to try and figure out what is really needed for basic campground gear so we list a few to get you thinking about your own needs.
A knife – It can be a multi-tool, a jackknife, or a fixed-blade knife of your choice. You’ll find plenty of uses for whether you are whittling sticks for S’mores or cutting twine to tie things down. A knife always come in handy when you’re camping.
Axe or Camping Saw – This is one of those tools that you need when you need it but it might not get used every time. You may need to cut wood into tinder or any number of things that require this particular tool.
Matches or Lighter – The best option is wind and water resistant. Camping happens out in the weather and wet matches won’t help you much. You can find lots of options available online and at camping stores.
Tarps – There are so many uses for tarps that you will be happy you brought them. They work for keeping moisture seeping up through the ground and protecting you and your equipment from the rain. Always have at least one good tarp with you and more is better.
We hope this helps to get you started on your must-have list for camping. We want you trip to be a memorable one and having the right tools on hand will help.
